MAURITIUS#15 + fantasyVFNH .Two examples of #15 one orange, one red, with portraits of Queen Victoria that don't look like her much, and a 'fantasy' in blue with an even less accurate portrait. Mauritius is famous to stamp collectors because it is the second British colony to issue stamps- ahead of Canada India etc. Five hundred stamps each of a One penny and Two penny denomination were printed. The designs were engraved on the back of copper plate originally used to print a lady’s visiting card. This original plate prepared by and printed by J Barnard was discovered in 1912. From that plate reprints were made. The stamps are known to be just about the pinnacle of any collection both in rarity and value. There is only one unused example in private hands.
