Item Description

Having used contemporary French postage with specific numeric cancels for Offices in Turkey, the French in mid-1884 began overprinting postage stamps specifically for those foreign French Post Offices. This gutter pair shows the error stamp (a missed 1 to the right of Piastre) and a standard overprinted stamp. The pair is in sound condition though the printer's blue cross guidelines in the selvage do have a triangular hole in the lower leg.
