Netherlands. Postcard commemorating the "Uiver" commemorative flight from London to Melbourne in 1984, marking the 50th anniversary of the original flight in 1934.
"Uiver" is the name of a Douglas DC-2 aircraft owned by the Dutch airline KLM.
In 1934, the aircraft won the handicap competition in the London-Melbourne Air Race and came in second place for speed.
Although the original aircraft crashed in December 1934, its story has been immortalized.
The postcard was issued by PTT Post (Dutch Post) on the occasion of the commemorative flight, sent on 1 February 1984 from Delden, Netherlands, to Melbourne, Australia, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1934 London-Melbourne Air Race.
The postcard was sent by Dr. W. J. M. Holthuiszen from Delden, Netherlands, to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in Melbourne, Australia. It depicts aircraft and postage stamps from the Netherlands.
