Item Description
Norway (Norge), Scott #283 (Facit #360)(MIchel #327)(Yvert&Tellier #297)(Stanley Gibbons #388)(Aktieselskabet Frimærke-Automaten {AFA} #341), used (o), 1947, Celebrating the 300th Anniversary of the Norwegian Post Office; stamps shows Cleng Peerson (1783-1865) with the sloop ‘Restauration’ in the background, in 1821, Peerson made an exploratory trip to the United States at the request of a Quaker religious community seeking to establish a community in the new world free from religious persecution; Peerson returned with optimism, and led the first group of 52 Norwegians to emigrate to the United States, traveling on the Norwegian sloop ‘The Restauration’; sailing earlier, Peerson met the immigrants when they landed in New York City on October 9, 1825; they moved to northern New York, settling about 35 miles northwest of Rochester in the settlement of Kendall on the shores of Lake Eire, that had been founded earlier by first settlers in 1812; the road that ran through this settlement is today known as Norway Road; 30 øre, photogravure printed by Emil Moestue Aksjeselskap, perforated at scale: 13, no watermark, red lilac, Scott 2025 catalog value 25¢. Nicely centered (superb), light, black-inked, single-rimmed, half circular, socked-on-the-nose border cancellation at the right side, down from middle, and well clear of the main image, sound back, hinge remnant, good perforations; centering and image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch' offer; the stamp you see will be the one you receive.By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
