Item Description
The Peregrine Falcon made an impressive return from the brink of extinction in the 1990s, and this important occurence was honored with a stamp in the 'Celebrate the Century' set for the 1990s. The stamp featured a noble headshot of a Peregrine Falcon by artist Drew Struzan, and was entitled 'Recovering Species'.This handcolored Bennett Cachetoon shows a bold Peregrine Falcon as he might have appeared on the television show, 'Survivor', a hugely popular 'reality show' at the time of the stamp's issuance.
This FDC bears the less-often-seen pictorial cancel from 'Condor Ridge' ( an aviary section of the San Diego Widl Animal Park not far from the official First Day of Issue city of Escondido, CA).
