PREXIE Postal History with RARE PO ISSUED SPECIAL DELIVERY Label: four stamps; 25c Prexie, 10c Fourth Bureau, 5c Walter Reed Famous Americans & 2c Samuel Morse Famous Americans, (Scott #829, 642, 877 & 890), 42c total, all tied by Utica NY mute ovals to COVER / MAILING TAG HYBRID (the cover has a flap to place papers, but also a grommet for attaching to a shipment), addr Moravia NY, Parcel Post DCDS Oct 21 1940 added, SPECIAL DELIVERY Insured Parcel Post usage, the company in Utica was the Bossert Company (much of their logo is covered but enough is there to see it), Rate breaks down as 12c Zone 1 Parcel Post, between 3 & 4 pounds, 5c Insured and 25c Special Delivery, this is a scarce rate for OVER TWO POUNDS, the fantastically RARE Special Delivery GPO printed label is on the reverse, filled in for 25c AND TIED, light crease, soiling, none of which detract from this incredible usage, totally commercial, Fine-VF.

I have seen this Special Delivery label before. It was used when the rate wasn't clear on the package (no Special D stamp was used here). Mint copies exist, but I have NEVER seen one tied to a cover. The rare "over 2 lbs" rate piece (literally) in the Suffet sale had Special D stamps, so the label wasn't necessary.

If you want a rare prexie item, this is as good as it gets.
