Item Description
Grade: UngradedRare offering here, a huge collection of war documents, letters and Feldpost to and about Luftwaffe war hero and Knights Cross holder Horst Schiller. This is a treasure trove of paper items, all related to Horst Schiller and family. (Gabler, Messerschmidt) Very sad collection about a very important Luftwaffe hero that was awarded the Knights Cross, and Deutsche Kreuz in gold. Many letters are from his family looking for him. 1 document tell us his crew was seen successfully bailing from their burning airplane but unknown if he survived. Other letters from his family to the Red Cross and German officials tell us they believed he was imprisoned in a Canadian prison camp and were urging the German Military and authorities to please look there. Some final documents sadly tell us he was killed in the Ukraine June 2nd 1943. Awarded in recognition of his 466 sorties as a ground attack pilot. During this time he inflicted the following materiel losses on the enemy... - 1 destroyer - 2 supply ships - 17 tanks - 1 armoured train - 1 coastal batteryOne document shows his promotion to sergeant (Posthumously) in a letter written to his family from the German military. Other letters from officials repeatedly telling the family they are still looking for him. A lot of people were looking for this guy! Many Feldpost letters written by Horst to his sweetheart Emma Messerschmidt, and many to and from his family, all letters and documents in this collection are related and connected to Horst Schiller. Letters from the German Wehrmacht to the Schiller family explaining that he is MIA and they are looking for him but his whereabouts are unknown.Over 70 pieces in total, many of the letters I kept unopened. I have many more photos if you want to see more just ask, Hip would only let me add 24 and there is a lot of content here!
