Item Description
Grade: UngradedRare offering here, an employee insurance card from Luftwaffe war hero and Knights Cross holder Horst Schiller. Part of a collection from the Schiller estate, many items being listed, all related to Horst Schiller and family. (Gabler, Messerschmidt) The insurance card is dated 1937 and has multiple stamps inside. Horst Schiller was awarded the Knights Cross, and Deutsche Kreuz in gold. From other documents I have tell us his crew was seen successfully bailing from their burning airplane but unknown if he survived. Other letters from his family to the Red Cross and German officials tell us they believed he was imprisoned in a Canadian prison camp and were urging the German Military and authorities to please look there. Some final documents sadly tell us he was killed in the Ukraine June 2nd 1943. Awarded in recognition of his 466 sorties as a ground attack pilot. During this time he inflicted the following materiel losses on the enemy... - 1 destroyer - 2 supply ships - 17 tanks - 1 armoured train - 1 coastal battery(X series)
