Item Description

Saar (Germany), Scott #322 (Michel #448), used(o), 1959, Alexander von Humboldt, (1769-1859), German naturalist and explorer; a major figure in classical period of physical geography and biogeography, which laid the foundations for Earth Sciences, and Ecology; the Humboldt Current off the west coast of South America was named after him; 15 francs, perforated: 13¾x14, engraved, watermarked: "DBP" (Deutsche Bundes Post) and rosettes in alternating reverse print and forward print multiples, in right and left diagonals crossing on the rosettes (Scott German watermark #304, Michel wasserzeichen #2), blue, Scott 2019 catalog value: 50¢. Nicely centered, light, quarter circular, black-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation with mailing details bridge and some mailing details at the upper right and just into the main image, sound back, good perforations; centering and image free cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch' offer; the stamp you see will be the one you receive.
