The French Protectorate of Annam was a French colony in what is now central Vietnam that lasted from 1883 to 1949. It was part of French Indochina, a federation of French colonies in Southeast Asia. The protectorate was established after the Treaty of Huế, also known as the "Harmand Treaty", was signed in 1883.
