Item Description

.  South West Africa 1944 Official 1½d blue-green & yellow buff overprinted with Type O2 (reading downwards with 'OFFICIAL' at right). A very fine mint lightly hinged block (two pairs) - lower pair u/m never hinged - with all four stamps all showing DIAERESIS OVER SECOND "E" IN 'OFFISEEL' variety - overprinted using the first Forme. The top left stamp also shows RAISED "OFFICIAL" variety and the lower right-hand copy also shows LONG "OFFICIAL" variety. A scarce block as the majority of these stamps were overprinted with the second Forme (the latter having no diaeresis at all). See footnote in Gibbons under SG O35. Gibbons # O33a x2.
