Item Description
This cover was mailed from Southgate, California to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1947 franked by a 2-cent carmine George Washington coil issue of 1923, Scott 606, and a 1-1/2-cent bister brown Martha Washington Presidential issue of 1938, Scott 805. The Washington issue (most likely out of the two) was added to the cover at the Post Office once the sender or recipient forwarded the additional postage required (in this case, overpaid by 1/2c), receipt of which was acknowledged by the purple handstamp: 'This is the Mail for Which You Sent Postage.' The purple straight-line dater indicates the time lag for the additional postage to have arrived. The stamps are tied to the envelope by a machine cancellation.Opened by lifting, the backflap is un-sealed and intact. No contents or backstamps.
The cover in the scan is the one you will receive. Light lines in images are SCANNER ARTIFACT!
