Item Description
Germany (American/British Occupation-Rheinland Pfalz), Scott #6NB9, used(o), 1949, Semi-Postal, Commemorating Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), German statesman and writer, von Goethe unified and shaped the German language, von Goethe in left profile, 30 pfennigs + 15 pfennigs, blue, Scott 2019 catalog value: $42.50. Nicely centered, classic circular socked-on-the-nose cancellation over main image ("RHEINE (WEST[PHALIA]), 25-10-50"), cancelled at the town of Rheine in the district of Steinfurt in allied occupation zone of Westphalia in western Germany on October 25, 1950, sound back, hinge remnant, good perforations. This is not a 'bait-and-switch' offer. The stamp you see will be the one you receive. At catalog value $42.50/usedand $4.50/mint, you have to worry about a forged cancel; it is too inexpensive tosend off for certification, but this stamp has a key indicator that it islikely authentic: it has a full clear cancel with details of where cancelled and the date of the mailing. As a collectorof used stamps, I have been studying these forged cancels for years both withGermany and Italy. Most forgeries have light, off-center cancelsthat lack post office town and date of mailing details. So, I think thisstamp has been correctly postally used in the period of issue.
I willsend the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of thestamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyerassumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing toverify that the correct mailing address was used. If not satisfied, return thestamp to me at your own expense, and I will refund the cost, but not my postageto you. If the stamp is not as described,I will refund the cost and reimburse you for postage both ways. If you purchase additional stamps, up to 100stamps, from my listings, I will consolidate the shipment, and there will be noextra shipping charges. However do letme know that you are making multiple purchases, and also let me know if youwant me to delay posting until you make an accumulated purchase. I do want youto be happy with your purchase, and I do want to economize for you on yourshipping charges.
By wayof reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176). Thank youfor looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in yourcollection.
