Item Description
United States, Scott #3055 (Michel -US #2995BC, Yvert and Tellier-US #2765, Stanley Gibbons-US #3459), used(o), 1998 coil, from Flora and Fauna series of definitives, stamp shows a male ring-neck pheasant; originally found in west lower central Asia, the Romans brought the ring-necked pheasants to Europe about 2,000 years ago, they were brought to America in the 1880s and introduced as a ‘game bird’; they multiplied rapidly and are now common in the upper part of the United States and lower Canada, the males are the more colorful of the breed and more likely to be flushed and hunted, as the all-brown females are a bit smaller and more likely to stay hidden and blended in with their field cover, stamp issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive gum in coils of 100, 500, and 3,000 with a plate number on every 24th stamp, serpentine die cut simulated perforations 9¾ vertical, imperforated at top and bottom, perforated at the sides, lithography printed by the ‘Bureau’ (Bureau of Engraving and Printing {BEP}), (stamp should not be confused with the various booklet stamps with a similar design in 1998 and 1999 but with varying perforation sizes and edges with tagged and untagged coatings, with this stamp design, you are in for a fairly intricate perforation scale analysis), 20 cents, phosphorus tagged paper, horizontal dated 1998 in black-inked microprint at lower left, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 25¢, nicely centered (superb), three-quarter circular, red-inked, double-rimmed, lightly double-hit and somewhat smudged, quarter counter-clockwise turned, socked-on-the-nose cancellation centered at the bottom edge, right of center and extending up and out over most of the front of the stamp, good perforations, stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly prepared; centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
