The Tete-Beche Varieties of Transvaal, by Dr. Alan R. Drysdall, FRPSL and Major Harold M. Criddle, FRPSL, RDPSA. Drysdall is characterized by Robson Lowe in his entertaining Forward as the "Professor of Transvaal Philately". The introduction provides the background to the early issues, including their method of production and means of identifying single stamps from the inverted cliche in the plate. Each of the 59 recorded Tete-Beche multiples is then described with its past and present ownership recorded. All but three are illustrated, many from the Royal Philatelic Collection, the Tapling Collection at the British Library and the Curle Collection in the Africana Museum, Johannesburg. Since only one example has been discovered since publication in 1940 of Curle and Basden's listing, this must be the definitive study of these major rarities. Appendices cover the DRIE tete-beche essays and the later perforated printings of the EEN SHILLING. 1993, 52 pages, hardcover with dust jacket, fully illustrated in B&W, some color, New.
