Item Description
Stamp Evaluation – Scott #307 (Used, Hinged – Single Stamp)10¢ Pale Red Brown – Daniel Webster, 1903
(Second Bureau Issue – Engraved, Flat Plate Printing, Perf 12)
?️ Design Overview:
Scott #307 is a 10¢ red brown stamp from the 1902–03 Second Bureau Issue. It honors Daniel Webster, renowned American statesman and orator. The engraving features a framed portrait of Webster between fasces columns and scrollwork. The denomination “TEN CENTS” and years “1782–1852” are featured prominently below the portrait. This high-denomination stamp was primarily used on registered mail and heavier foreign letter rates.
This specimen is postally used, previously hinged, and lacks original gum.
? Grading Breakdown:
Centering Grade: 58 (Very Good)
The stamp is off-center toward the top and right. Perforations on the top and right sides come very close to, or appear to touch, the design's frameline.
Margins measure approximately 0.1mm or slightly less in some places, qualifying as Very Good under PSE standards.
? Soundness Evaluation:
This stamp shows the following minor condition issues:
Fault Type Description Classification
Very Minor Fault Hinge remnant (visible on reverse) Very Minor Fault
Extremely Minor Fault Short perf (bottom left corner, ~half length) Extremely Minor Fault
Soundness Classification: Very Minor Fault
Combination of a Very Minor Fault and an Extremely Minor Fault places this in the Very Minor Fault category.
Soundness Deduction: –15 points
✂️ Perforations & Margins:
Perforation Gauge: Perf 12, matches issue standard.
Condition: All perforations appear original and unaltered, with one noticeably shorter perf at bottom left.
Margins: Very tight top and right, adequate bottom and left—consistent with Very Good centering.
? Cancellation Classification:

The cancel is clear, minimal, and non-obstructive.
