1866 LETTER WITH FANTASTIC CONTENT: 3c Pink entire; (Scott #U59), cnl St Louis Oct 18 duplex in Blue, partially off entire, slight but irregular reduction at L, addressed Franklin New Hampshire, marked "Oct 23" probably for arrival, printed "Return To" at L, on reverse 10/18/66 has been written, cover has TWO PAGE LETTER, datelined St. Louis Oct 18th, with clear & HIGHLY INTERESTING CONTENT, begins Dear Sister Have not completed the circle yet, then goes on to say he is having work on his boats done near Yazoo City (in Mississippi), also mentions ship breakers, then veers into a different and very exciting area Gen'l Butler (the CONFEDERATE general, not the Union) made a good speech here . . . The Southern Relief Assn have been holding a fair for the benefit of Confederate Soldiers . . . for several weeks past (I) have been urged to attend but did not feel prepared, this means the writer is most likely a CSA vet, his sister is unmarried (Miss Neimuth or Naismith???), good research may tell more about this family, finally he closes the letter with I do not hear much about the cholera. The daily papers don't say anything, a reference to the Cholera Epidemic of 1866, he signs Bro Sid, so his name is Sid or Sidney, sm stain on reverse of pg. two, a powerful find and a great letter, Fine-VF!
