This is an unusual usage as the cover is not registered and at this time there was a seal specifically intended for such purposes. One cover reported with the type 25 seal. (king george v type 25 crown 3 ' ( 'g.R.' roman font - very closely spaced around crown) g.R. Officially sealed in the post office.', perf 10, eku 4/27/1948) sent 1948, beautiful as is condition. (seals by definition were used to repair damaged mail caused by a wide variety of conditions and found in a wide range of condition.) this cover appeared in the exhibit of the late jim kotanchik's gold medal award winning exhibit, "official seals of great britain" the exhibit was probably last shown at westpex in 2009. It is possible that some of the information contained therein is no longer current. Jim kotanchik was a highly regarded expert in worldwide seals.
