United States. 19th century postcard.The card is addressed to "H.L. Aldrich" in "Providence". The US 1-cent postage stamp used depicts a woman's head. The text "WRITE THE ADDRESS ON THIS SIDE—THE MESSAGE ON THE OTHER" indicates the rules for using the card. The text on the back states: This is an 1880 bill of lading receipt from the South Carolina Railroad Company's freight office in Charleston, South Carolina. The receipt was issued on November 24, 1880. It confirms that a shipment was shipped by steamer. The document is signed by C. D. Bateman, agent for the company. At the bottom, it is stated that it was printed by Walker, Evans & Cogswell.
