Item Description
United States, Scott #1295 (Michel #914X)(Yvert&Tellier #799{A})(Stanley Gibbons #1279), used(o), 1966, high value stamp in the Prominent Americans Series, which began in 1964, to recognize people who played important roles in U.S. history; a total of 25 people were so honored, however, a number of technological changes developed during the course of producing the series, resulting in a number of varieties due to gum, luminescence, precancels and perforations plus sheet, coil and booklet formats, so the series produced quite a number of different stamps, this stamp shows John Bassett Moore (1860-1947), American politician, author, lawyer, and professor, authority on international law, was a member of the Hague Tribunal (established in 1899 to arbitrate international disputes), and was the first American judge to serve on the Permanent Court of International Justice ( also known as the World Court, which existed from 1922 to 1946), $5.00, recess engraved and printed on the Rotary Press by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), line perforated at scale: 11x10½, gray black, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: $2.25, off-centered (fine), which is typical for the issue as most are considerably off-centered as this stamp is, light, quarter circular, purple-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the bottom left and well clear of the main image, sound back, stamp appears to have a clipped perforation at the top right corner, however this is a common illusion for the issue due to the asynchronized nature of the line perforation method used for this printing process, the corner perforations on this stamp are sound, as are all the other perforations; image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
