Item Description
United States, Scott #1568, used(o), 1975, Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Establishment of the United States Military; a set of four stamps honoring the three services established by the Continental Congress in 1775 and a fourth service, the Militia, which existed prior; each stamp shows a serviceman in the uniform of the period; this stamp shows a Militiaman with a Musket in the foreground with an enlarged power horn in the background; the Militia, which today we would call the ‘National Guard’, was America's original armed force, formed out of the Massachusetts Militia, to fight against British forces at Lexington Common outside Buckman's Tavern (sunrise on April 19th, 1775, where they ‘stood their ground’ and were fired upon, but maybe fired first without orders), at Concord Bridge (11AM on April 19th, 1775 - a definite engagement, the ‘shot heard around the world’), and Bunker Hill (a pitched battle on June 17th, 1775); 10 cents, multicolored, perforated at scale: 11, photogravure printed in sheets of 50 stamps by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), the sheets are conveniently arranged so that either strips of four, or blocks of the four different stamps can be easily assembled from the sheet, no watermark, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 25¢, nicely centered (superb), very light, quarter circular, black-inked, double-rimmed, quarter counter-clockwise turned, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the top left and just over the main image, sound back, back of stamp picked up some red stain from its mailing envelope, stain does not show through to the front, good perforations; centering and largely image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
