Item Description
United States, Scott #2540 (Michel #2154)(Yvert &Tellier #1956)(Stanley Gibbons #2594), used(o), 1991, Priority Mail stamp; stamp was issued in conjunction with the United States Olympic Festival Torch Run, stamp shows an, interestingly determined, American Eagle with the Olympic Rings symbol at the upper right, in an interesting turn of events, stamp designer Terrence McCaffrey of the postal service, searching for a determined and focused eagle, found a fierce-looking eagle as an in-stock, routine image from the catalog of a stock photo house, but this had been a popular photo that other customers had ordered from the catalog, searching for uniqueness led him to the original photographer for the catalog photo, and from a selection of poses snapped for the same eagle, he found the unique photo for our eagle; $2.90, double press printed, offset lithography on a four color Miller press and recess intaglio engraved and printed on the three color Giori press by the American Banknote Company, issued in panes of 20 like stamps, perforated at scale: 11, phosphorus tagged paper, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: $1.50, slightly off-centered (very fine), large, quarter-to-half circular, red-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose corner and border cancellation at the lower left and just clear of the main image, some surface abrasions at the upper right quadrant and in the upper left corner, sound back, several clipped perforations along the lower left border and at the top left corner, otherwise good perforations; centering and image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium, but surface and perforation problems call for an adjustment, so it's much a wash. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.70 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.78 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
