Item Description
United States, Scott #2949, used(o), 1995, Valentine's Day Issue, stamp shows an amorino Cherub from Raphael's Sistine Madonna; the painting, also called the Madonna di San Sisto, is an oil painting by the Italian artist Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino (1483-1520); the painting was commissioned in 1512 by Pope Julius II for the church of San Sisto in Piacenza, and was probably executed c. 1513–1514; the canvas was one of the last Madonnas painted by Raphael, the non-denominational stamp was printed by the post office in anticipation of a postal rate hike, but the rate was unknown at the time of printing; when issued, the rate was known, and the stamps were sold for 32 cents (32¢), these stamps were issued imperforated on on non-water soluble self adhesive panes, micro-printed '1995' date in lower margin at the left, multicolored, Scott 2019 catalog value: 25¢. Nicely centered, quarter circular, black-inked, single-rimmed socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the bottom right and into the main image, stamp was soaked from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive album mounting; centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.40 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.60 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
