Item Description
United States, Scott #2962, used(o), 1995 Recreational Sports Issue, stamp shows a young lady ready to swing in a slow-pitch softball game; every day, millions of Americans gather at diamonds, courts, lanes, and links to participate in their favorite recreational sport; the five Recreational Sports se-tenant stamps honor these amateur athletes and the more popular games in which they participate; softball is played by more than 30 million people worldwide; although batting and field strategy are the same as in baseball, the rules differ in several ways; most noticeably, the ball is larger, and after some play, becomes soft and sort of spongy, making the play safer and the fielding easier; also the playing field is smaller, and pitching is done underhand, players must stay on the bases until the ball has left the pitcher’s hand, and games are only seven innings, not nine, generally two types of the game are played - fast pitch and slow pitch; slow pitch is the most popular since everyone can hit the ball, resulting in more action and more fun on the field; softball was first developed by George Hancock in 1887 as an indoor game; in 1895, Lewis Rober of the Minneapolis Fire Department adapted the game for outdoor use; it was from his version that the present game developed; 32 cents, lithography printed by the Banknote Corporation of America (BCA), issued with water soluble self adhesive gum, serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 11¼, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 25¢, nicely centered (superb), red inked, quarter circular, double rimmed, probably quarter clockwise turned, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the top right and well into the main images, sound back, front cancel shows through to the back, good perforations; nice centering warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
