Item Description
United States, Scott #3647, used(o), 2002 (not to be confused with Scott #3647A which is similar but with a 2003 subscript date, non-water soluble gum, and pf: 11x10¾), this is the third stamp in the National Monuments priority and express mail series, this stamp is an Express Mail Stamp showing the Jefferson Memorial, a presidential memorial in Washington, D.C., situated on the Tidal Basin and surrounded by Japanese cherry trees; it was built between 1939 and 1943 in honor of Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), third president of the United States, a founding father, the principal author of the United States Declaration of Independence Independence, sponsor of the Virginia Bill of Religious Freedom, which established the principle for the separation of church and state, and who negotiated the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 which doubled the size of the United States; $3.85, lithography printed by the Banknote Corporation of America (BCA), serpentine die cut simulated perforated: 11¼, issued with water soluble self adhesive backing on counter panes, stamp has date '2002' in small print in lower left corner, stamp has a 3D image of Jefferson's signature over the water reflecting pool which can only be decoded and seen with a special USPS glass, multicolored, Scott 2025 catalog value: $2.00. Nicely centered (superb), very light and faint, large, quarter circle, red-inked, double-rimmed, blurred, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the lower right and just into the main image, though water soluble, stamp was placed on a piece of black cardstock for an attractive and uniform appearance with similarly placed stamps, good perforations; centering and largely image free cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
