Item Description
United States, Scott #3757, used(o), 2003, Americana Design Series, American Clock, stamp shows the face of a Willard Banjo clock of circa 1805; called a banjo clock because of its shape with a small head enclosing the clockworks and a long shaft containing the pendulum; unlike other clocks, the design omits the striking mechanism and indicates time only by its hands and dial; a cast iron eagle finial tops most banjo clocks; the clock's stylist shape, polished metal fittings, and decorative glass panels appealed to consumers and made it one of the most famous designs in American clockmaking; the first of these clocks were made by clockmaker Simon Willard of Boston; only about 4,000 authentic Willard banjo clocks are known to collectors today; issued with non-water soluble self-adhesive on counter sheets of twenty; serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 11¼x10¾, photogravure printed, 10 cents, multicolored, nicely centered, large, quarter circular, double-rimmed, black-inked, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellation at the top left and well into the main image, stamp was soaked from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed, first on a piece of white paper for color contrast, and then on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive album mounting, good perforations; centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.50 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.566 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
