Item Description
United States, Scott #3943, used(o), 2005, Greta Garbo (1905-1990; Swedish-born American actress (born Gretta Lovisa Gustafsson in Stockholm); regarded as one of the greatest screen actresses of all time; she was known for her melancholic, somber persona, her film portrayals of tragic characters, and her subtle and understated performances; in 1999, the American Film Institute ranked her fifth on its list of the greatest female stars of classic Hollywood cinema; from the beginning of her career, she avoided industry social functions, preferring to spend her time alone or with friends; she never signed autographs or answered fan mail, and rarely gave interviews; nor did she did she ever appear at Oscar ceremonies, even when she was nominated; her aversion to publicity and the press was undeniably genuine; she is thus closely associated with a line from her movie Grand Hotel (1932), for one of the most memorable movie quote lines of all time: "I want to be alone; I just want to be alone;" 37 cents, issued with water soluble self adhesive panes, serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾, engraved, black, Scott 2019 Catalog Value: 25¢, slightly off-centered, light, large, quarter-to-half circular, black-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose cancellation over the bottom left half of the stamp and well into the main image, sound back though with a mottled appearance from the envelope soaking process, good perforation. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.45 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.63 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
