Item Description
United States, Scott #4269 (Michel #4408)(Yvert&Tellier #4078)(Stanley Gibbons #4862), used(o), 2008, The second stamp of the American Landmarks Issue, stamp honors the Hoover Dam; a civil engineering wonder and national historic landmark, located on on a down river portion of the Colorado River on the border between the states of Arizona and Nevada; it was it is named for Herbert C. Hoover, President when construction started in 1931; when it was completed in the mid-1930s, it was the tallest dam ever built and was the largest hydroelectric facility in the world; today, it remains today, the tallest concrete dam in the United States; it is also a showcase for its revolutionary design elements: striking bas-reliefs, terrazzo floors, bronze sculptures, and even a celestial map, but the most notable works are the two, 30 foot tall, bronze statures, ‘Winged Figures of the Republic’ flanking a flagpole on the Nevada side of the dam; twenty-nine stamps were printed in the series between its beginning in 2008 and its end in 2023, being replaced in 2024 by star formation stamps with images captured by the Webb Space Telescope; priority mail rate: $16.50, issued with non-water soluble self adhesive, offset lithography printed in panes of 20 like stamps by the Ashton Potter USA (APU), serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10¾x10½, ‘USPS’ in horizontal, black-inked, security microprint on the stone edge of the lower generator level at the lower left side middle of the stamp; the issued date of ‘2008’ is also in horizontal, dotted black, security microprint, within the stamp frame on the lower right side of the stamp, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: $19.00, nicely centered (superb), black inked, horizontal, single bar cancellation along the lower border of the stamp and well clear of the main image, good perforations, stamp was lifted from its mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black cardstock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted; centering, mounting, and image clear cancel warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.70 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.78 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
