United States, Scott #5098, used(o) coil, 2016, Star Quilt Pattern; nondenominal issue stamp at a counter value of (25 cents) to cover the presorted first class mail rate for bulk mailing; quilt-making in American only became common when the large scale production of cotton fabrics was achieved in the latter stages of the industrial revolution; by the 1840s, these fabrics became finally affordable thanks to the growth of the United States textile industry; this led to quilt making becoming a more popular hobby where the quilt's secondary purpose, beyond the utilitarian purpose of being a bed-cover providing warmth, was to show off the sewing skills of its maker, and star patterns achieved this demonstrated skill purpose as well as capturing a theme: stars relating to religion: star of Bethlehem, Morning star, Star of the East; to nature: Blazing Star, Star Burst; to patriotism: Texas Lone Star, Patriotic Star, Dolly Madison Star, Martha Washington Star; the star on this stamp is an eight-point, diamond and arrow point patriotic lone star theme in the traditional red, white, blue, and green, executed by Amish quiltmakers; serpentine die cut simulated perforations gauge 11 vertical, imperforated at top and bottom, perforated at the sides, issued in coils of 3,000 stamps with non-water soluble pressure sensitive self-adhesive gum, offset lithography printed by the Banknote Corporation of America (BCA), multicolored, Scott 2025 catalog value: 25¢, nicely centered (superb), large, faint, quarter circular, red-inked, double-rimmed, socked-on-the-nose, corner cancel at the lower left corner and clear of the main image; a cancellation on this stamp is unusual, and uniquely collectable, as most pre-sorted mail is passed through uncancelled, good perforations, stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps of the period similarly mounted; centering, mounting, uniquely cancelled, and still a image clear cancels warrant a selling price premium - this is an example of a perfect used stamp - nicely centered, light offset image free cancel, but with sufficient cancellation details to assure stamp was postally used and not a CTO or courtesy cancel, good perforations, fresh clear impression - a perfect used stamp! This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive.
