Item Description
United States, Scott #5568, used(o), 2021, Colorado Hairstreak Butterfly, non-machinable surcharge stamp; the surcharge represents an additional postage charge by USPS on letters that do not fit through the automated postal service processing system and need be hand-canceled by USPS staff; the Non-Machinable Butterfly stamp series began in 2010, with the issue of the 64¢ Monarch Butterfly design; the series was created to be used on greeting cards or other envelopes that required additional postage and/or could not be sorted on the USPS’s automated equipment (known as 'non-machinables'); this stamp is the eighth in the series; the Colorado hairstreak is a vibrant purple butterfly native to the southwestern United States and northern Mexico; they live in mountainous shrubland and are highly dependent on the Gambel scrub oak for survival; this tree is an important food source for the hairstreak caterpillars; the hairstreak lays its eggs in late summer with caterpillars hatching the following spring; adult hairstreaks have a wingspan of one to one and a half inches with a thin tail on each back wing. This tail is what gives the species its name; issued as a forever (75¢) stamp; serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10½, offset lithography printed by the Banknote Corporation of America (BCA), issued with non-water soluble self adhesive gum on sheets of 120 in panes of 20; multicolored, forever stamp (55 cents), Scott 2025 catalog value: 25¢, nicely centered (superb), light and large, half circular, single-rimmed, black-inked, socked-on-the-nose cancellation centered at the middle right border and extending back over the right half of the stamp, stamp has a badly puller perforation at the lower right corner, hence price discounted, otherwise good perforations, stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive and uniform appearance with other stamps in the album similarly mounted; centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium, but damaged perforation calls for an adjustment, so a wash. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
