Item Description
United States, Scott #5708, used(o), 2022, Commemorating Folk Singer Pete Seeger (1919-2014); the stamp , continuing the Music Icons Series, features a black and white color tinted photograph of the singer taken at concert in the early 1960s set in a frame to represent a 45 rpm record album cover of the era; in his early career, with his Almanac Singers group, he developed tunes promoting labor unions and wartime patriotic themes in a style reminiscent of rural southern folk music, after the war, with a new group, the Weavers, he topped the music charts with ‘Good Night Irene’; as his career progressed, he peppered Americans with sing-along tunes such as ‘If I Had a Hammer,’ ‘Wimoweh’, and ‘Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore;’ a song adapted by him, 'We Shall Overcome,' became the anthem of the civil rights movement; he also composed hits recorded by other artists during the ‘HIppie Era’ such as : ‘Turn, Turn, Turn’ and 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone;' issued as a ‘forever’ stamp with a counter sales value of 60 cents, serpentine die cut simulated perforations: 10½, issued on non-water soluble self adhesive panes, date 2022 in lower left corner, ‘USPS’ in micro print on the upper handle of the banjo, phosphorus block tagged paper, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 25¢. Nicely centered (superb), double strike cancels, both red-inked, double-rimmed, quarter circular, socked-on-the-nose corner cancellations at the bottom left and bottom right and both well clear of the main image, good perforations, stamp was issued on non-water soluble pressure-sensitive adhesive panes, this stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted; mounting, centering, and image free cancels warrants a selling price premium This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used. If not satisfied, return the stamp to me at your own expense, and I will refund the cost, but not my postage to you. If the stamp is not as described, I will refund the cost and reimburse you for postage both ways.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
