Item Description
United States, Scott #B7, used(o), 2019, Charity Stamp for the treatment of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); stamp shows a plant sprout growing from fallen leaves; the image, intended to symbolize the PTSD healing process, was based on an original photographic art piece by Los Angeles and New York based Mark Laita (1960+); Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can affect people after they have experienced or witnessed a life-threatening event; some of the most common symptoms include trouble sleeping, emotional distress, thoughts of suicide, and reliving memories of the event; if these symptoms continue after a few months, it may be a sign of PTSD; recognition of post-traumatic stress disorder as an official medical diagnosis did not occur until 1980, but the symptoms have been reported throughout history; it had previously been called ‘soldier’ heart (Civil War), ‘shell shock (World War I), ‘battle fatigue (World War II)’ among other names; however, the the disorder is not limited to a soldier; today, we know anyone who experiences trauma (automobile accidents, burning fires, and the like) can develop PTSD, and our understanding of the disorder continues to improve; one of the most difficult parts of the disorder - especially for veterans - is seeking help - somehow you should be able to just ‘shake it off;’ today, the US Department of Veterans Affairs' National Center for PTSD was the world's leading research and educational center on PTSD; 10 cents from each stamp sold is directed to this center to assist in the treatment for those impacted with this problem; issued as a semi-postal stamp at a counter price of 65 cents (55+10) cents, offset lithography printed by Ashton Potter USA (APU), serpentine die cut simulated 10¾ perforations, issued with non-water soluble, pressure sensitive, self-adhesive gum, ‘USPS’ in black ink, security microprint on the edge of the leaf just to the right of the plant stem; issue date is in horizontal dotted white microprint at the top right border; phosphorus tagged coated paper, multicolored, Scott 2025 Catalog Value: 60¢, nicely centered (superb), black-inked, horizontal, multiple line, very blurred, mailing details cancellation over the top quarter of the stamp and over the main images, good perforations, stamp was lifted from the mailing envelope using the Bestine solvent and placed, first on a piece of white, acid-free, bond paper, and then on a piece of black trimmed card stock for an attractive and uniform album appearance with other stamps from the period similarly mounted, centering and mounting warrants a selling price premium. This is not a 'bait-and-switch;' the stamp you see will be the one you receive. Please review my terms of sale. If you are not ordering from the United States, there is a $US1.65 additional postage expense that needs to be added to the price of the stamp. If you are ordering from the United States, there is only a $US0.73 added postage expense. Also, if you make additional purchases from my offerings, they can all go in one mailing at no extra shipping expense for the added purchases. I will send the purchase by US first class mail, since the relatively low value of the stamp does not warrant signature or tracking mail. Hence the buyer assumes risk of loss or non-delivery. I will keep a scan of my mailing to verify that the correct mailing address was used.
By way of reference, I am an American Philatelic Society member (195176) and an American Stamp Dealers Association (ASDA) member. Thank you for looking, and I hope this is the perfect stamp to fill that gap in your collection.
