Series of Uruguayan stamps issued between 1922 and 1928 for parcel post and courier services, featuring the SCULPTURE OF MERCURY BY JUAN DE BOLONIA, a prominent Mannerist sculptor influenced by Michelangelo.

The "Mercury Series" was used for both regular mail and parcel services.Each one having its own design . However, this specific issue for parcel post is not well-documented in international catalogs but is excellently classified in the CIARDI CATALOG, the leading specialized reference for Uruguayan stamps.

Series Details:

* FIRST ISSUE (1922): Sharp-angled frame, with "EXTERIOR" or "INTERIOR" inscriptions. These stamps were heavily used, making mint conditions scarce. The 1 PESO VALUE HAD A LIMITED PRINT RUN OF ONLY 20,000 COPIES.
* SECOND ISSUE (1926): Frame design changed to a more rounded and thicker style. Issued in 7 VALUES, each with TWO DIFFERENT IMPRINT VARIATIONS, making 14 VARIETIES IN TOTAL. Mint stamps from this issue are very difficult to find. This lot includes MOST VALUES IN MINT CONDITION, some used, and 2 MISSING VALUES.
* THIRD ISSUE (1928): Same design but in a smaller format, with a higher number of stamps printed.

Condition: Mixed (mint and used).
