Item Description

Letter sent from MIAMI (FLORIDA, USA) on OCTOBER 23, 1946 by DOMINGO E. TASSINO CAMPODÓNICO to LUIZ DEBALI, President of the URUGUAYAN ROWING FEDERATION (FUR).

Uniquely FRANKED WITH A URUGUAYAN STAMP, this letter was most likely CARRIED ABOARD A SHIP and entered the URUGUAYAN POSTAL SYSTEM UPON ARRIVAL, bypassing the U.S. postal network.

It bears TWO DIFFERENT URUGUAYAN POSTMARKS:
– One ON THE FRONT,
– Another ON THE BACK DATED JANUARY 18, 1947, confirming reception by the Uruguayan postal service.

️ The addressee added MANUSCRIPT NOTES on the reverse:
– _Received on January 20 / Replied on January 21_

The letter took NEARLY THREE MONTHS IN TRANSIT, a remarkable time gap for the era, which adds considerable interest from a postal history perspective. ( is notable the fact WWII ending was very close in time so probably routes were still affected ) 

The message is institutional and expresses the sender's full support for the Rowing Federation:

_"...placing myself unconditionally at your and the Federation's service for anything you may require. It is my desire to serve you, and I await your instructions..."_
