US 10 cent Panama-Pacific Expo stamp (Scott # 400A). This early US stamp is great to find with a perfin, but this one is rather unique as it has 2 Different Perfins from two distinct corporations. There is a PF (Pattern P82 in the US perfins catalogue) belonging to the Pacific Fruit Exchange. In addition, there is an SP (Pattern S215) identified as Southern Pacific Lines. They are a little difficult to pick out so I digitally altered one picture to show the patterns. While these perfins represent two separate entities, they were connected in business."Southern Pacific Company was a co-owner and founding partner of the Pacific Fruit Express, a major refrigerated freight car company that played a crucial role in transporting perishable goods across the US. In doing so they worked closely with Fruit packers such as the Pacific Fruit Exchange."But it is still hard to imagine why stamps would have been perfin'ed by both companies. Maybe others have seen something like this before?
