US V-Mail letter (you can see the silver in it) --- letter is addressed to Miss Gerie Jenkins, East 28th Street, Los Angeles, California --- letter is from Charles E. Jenkins, Ship's Cook 3rd class, N. S. D. Navy 167, Base Co. 46, c/o Fleet Post Office, San Francisco, California --- Navy 167 indicates that the writer is based in Gamadodo, Milne Bay, New Guinea --- Passed by Naval Censor circular censor's stamp with initials in script at upper leftThe letter is dated New Guinea, February 5, 1945, and begins, Dear Sis --- the writer says, "So you are planning on getting married. All I can say about that is that I wish you the best of luck." --- he qualifies that with, "See to it that mom approves of it, then it will be smooth sailing for you (smile)." --- he tells her, "I got a letter today from my girl from Chi. She only was saying such sweet things to me. (smile) She really would make a good sister in law."
He requests, "i hope you will hurry with the picture. Above all please send me my hair grease. Lots of konk." --- he mentions, "i know duke ellington really put on a fine show." --- he explains, "as you know by now i am a third-class ship's cook. 'how about that fine luck.'" --- he closes with, "don't forget the konk." --- signed, your brother, "chuck"; dark strip across bottom or sides is the plastic holder in the scan
