United States, Scott 483, on cover. Crisp strike of NEW YORK, N.Y. / NOV 2 / 1917 / PENN. TERM. STA. 2 CDS & wave ties 3c violet Washington, Schermack Type III coil, to cover with William M. Crane corner card, addressed to Wm. T. Baker & Co., Jersey City, New Jersey. This cover is the earliest known usage & the first day of the new 3c Wartime rate. Accompanied by a 2007 PSE Certificate which states: "it is a genuine usage on cover, the stamp with Schermack Type III private vending perforations, tied by a New York, N.Y., Nov. 2, 1917 machine cancel, the stamp with a small tear at the lower left corner.
