Item Description
Grade: UngradedUnited States postage stamp, issued in 1869. Scott Catalog Number: 113 Denomination: 2 Cents Subject: Post Horse and Rider (Pony Express) Series: 1869 Pictorial Issue Condition: Used Design and Production: This stamp is part of the first pictorial series issued by the United States and was the first U.S. postage stamp not to feature a portrait of a prominent deceased American. The stamp was printed by the National Bank Note Company on grilled paper. The 2-cent denomination was intended to pay the rate for unsealed circulars. Historical Context: The design is commonly referred to as the "Pony Express," although the actual Pony Express service had ceased operations in 1861, eight years before this stamp was issued. The vignette is a more general depiction of a mounted post rider. Combined Shipping: We offer combined shipping. You pay the shipping fee for one item, and all other eligible items purchased in the same order will ship free. For heavier lots, shipping will be calculated. You may proceed with your purchases, and any overpayment on shipping charges will be refunded.
