Item Description
International Polar Year 2007 was the largest, most comprehensive campaign ever mounted to explore the Earth's polar regions. An estimated 50,000 researchers, local observers, educators, students and support personnel from more than 60 countries were involved in 228 international IPY projects.Many countries saluted this global campaign of research with souvenir sheets, among them, the USA and Iceland. This double-wide FDC bears the souvenir sheets of both countries, each cancelled in their respective countries in February of 2007.
The cachet shows an Eagle and a Puffin, bundled up against the cold at their polar research site, 'shaking wings' in a display of international cooperation!
This double-wide FDC is signed by the cachetmaker and marked as cover #12 of only 50 serviced! The reverse bears the logos of both of Bennett's cachet lines - one for the USA and one for Iceland.
