Item Description

The 50 cent Foreign Exchange revenue stamp, imperforate vertically, with Oct 26, 1863 cancel.
The Scott Specialized catalog does not yet list this stamp imperforate vertically, however it is known to exist. The Joyce collection contained a pair, clearly validating the existance of stamps imperforate vertically. To date, no additional multiples are known. The Curtis Collection has a photo of the known pair, which was lot 2009 in the Daniel F. Kelleher auction of June 4, 1991.

This example has nice wide margins on both sides, but has damage at the very lower edge. I think possibly from a file fold, which affected the perforations at right, and left a bad crease at the left side. It also has a slight stain or discoloration over Washington's face.
