Item Description

The item in this listing is a single naval cover, cancelled on board the U.S.S. Augusta when it was off the Chinese coast near Shandong province on July 25, 1935.  The stamp affixed to the envelope is US #743, "Mesa Verde", from the National Parks issue of 1934.  The cancel reads "Firing SRBP off Tsingtao", with Tsingtao being a reference to Qingdao, a city in Shandong province that was formerly the colonial capitol of the German colony of Kiautschou.

The cover has a small blue backstamp reading "U.S. N.H. Parris Isl, SC".
