Item Description
I apologize to all philatelists out there. My dad is 85 years young and I am trying to help him "downsize" some of his stuff. Stamps appear to be "some of his stuff". What I know about stamps would probably fit on the stamp itself, but I am trying to look things up as I go. Please, if you see something incorrect regarding my listing, let me know so that I can learn (and also correct the listing).Feel free to make an offer on anything you see listed. Thanks for looking.
Multiple items purchased all ship for one price of $2.75, which includes tracking.
You can purchase a single item or multiples (or all). The following descriptions correspond to the photographs. If you want to purchase a specific card, please tell me which number you want.
1. addressee-C.B. Zantzinger. Cancellation is a wavy flag. Top half of the postmark is missing as is 1/2 of the flag cancellation. Postmark is from Frederick, MD, 1919. The stamp is a nice green color, but it looks like a paper clip (?) was over the upper, right of the card and left an impression over part of the stamp. The card is also very light discolored. Card is torn at the upper, right corner and bent at the upper, left corner, neither of which effects the stamp. The topic is a note asking about specs in two houses.
2. addressee-Mr. Morris Marlow. Cancellation is a wavy flag over a very nice stamp!. Postmark is from Dover, DEL, Dec 26, 1922. The stamp and card are in very good condition. The topic is regarding the annual report of the Marlow Coal Company.
3. addressee-Jm. J. Honesty. Cancellation is a circular postmark from Washington, DC, Dec ?, 1922. This barely crosses the right side of the stamp and is partially off the edge of the card (hence not knowing the day in Dec). Stamp is in very good condition. The topic is a coal delivery on Dec 2, 1922.
4. addressee-Marlow Coal Co. Cancellation is a very dark, wavy flag "Penn Square Station" and a #1 at the left end of line 4. The postmark is from Philadelphia, PA, Apr 2, 1923. The stamp is in very nice condition but has 3 pinholes (one in the "O" in Postal, the other two at the back side of Jefferson's head. Looks like they might be from a staple). The card is worn and there are dirt smudges but it doesn't effect the stamp. The topic is regarding a lost coal shipment.
5. addressee-Mr. O.B. Zantzinger. RAILROAD CANCELLATION!!!!!! The alipse, with dark lines is over the stamp and it says "CAR 2" in the center. The postmark is from the Towson & Caton SV. R.P.C, Balto, MD, Apr 30, 1923. There are two pinholes (staple?) in the stamp (just under Jefferson's nose and on his shoulder) and an indent in the card between the holes. The card is discolored along the top edge and bent at the upper, left corner. The topic is stump removal on land.
6. addressee-Marlow Coal Co. Cancellation is 6 wavy lines and the postmark is from Annapolis, MD, June 30, 1926. The stamp is in beautiful condition, nice dark green. The cancellation is also very good. The card is very slightly worn at the edges. The topic is regarding a $40 deposit for coal delivery.
7. addressee-Marlow Coal Co. Cancellation is all over the place, actually there are several on the upper right quadrant of the card. The bottom 3 lines of an eliptical cancellation is visible at the bottom of the stamp. A rectangular box just catches the top of the the stamp (just above Jefferson's head) and what is readable is "Citizens Military Training Camps". There is a round postmark to the left of the stamp from Washington, DC, Park Road STA., Apr 30, 1926. Another, very partial, round postmark is above this one but is illegible. Edges of the card are worn, but otherwise the card and stamp are in very good condition. Stamp is a nice dark green. The topic regards a coal delivery.
8. addressee-Mrs. C.L. Stone. Cancellation is a rectangular flag "Notify Your Correspondents of Change of Address" with 7 straight lines. There are 2 round postmarks, one larger and purple "Deficiency in Address", the other, smaller and black from Indianapolis, IND, June 5, 1929. In all fairness, there couldn't have been too many Mrs. C.L. Stones in Livonia, Indiana, but the post office was concerned about the lack of information regarding the addressee. The stamp is in very good condition. The card has some worn edges. The topic on the back is a personal note.
9. addressee-Mrs. R.L. Hill. Cancellation is 7 wavy lines. The Jefferson stamp is a nice dark green. There is an additional "Special Delivery" stamp to the left of Jefferson, that just covers the very left edge of the Jefferson stamp. The 16 cent special delivery stamp is Scott #CE2 showing the US Eagle in darkk blue and a red background. VIA AIR MAIL is stamped, in purple over the bottom of the Jefferson stamp (also "Special Delivery"). The postmark is from Arcadia, Calif, Dec 6, 1938. Upside down at the bottom, left of the front of the postal card is an eliptical cancellation, with "DE" in the center. The postmark here is from Washington, DC, Dec 7, 1938. The topic regards a dying mother in California.
10. addressee-Marlow Coal Co. Cancellation is 7 wavy lines over the Jefferson stamp, which is in beautiful condition! The postmark is from Washington, DC, Oct 31, 1939. The card has some small "crinkles" just to the left of the stamp, but it doesn't effect the stamp. The edges are very slightly worn. The topic regards payment of a balance due.
11. addressee-?Mr. Leo Walshe?. Cancellation is 6 straight lines with "Station O" between lines 3 & 4. The postmark is from New York, NY, May 31, 1944. The stamp is in nice condition except that a minor crinkle in the card go through the top of the stamp. The edges of the card are worn and the lower, right corner has a small bend. The topic regards living and working in New York (personal note).
