Item Description
Translated Message (From Front):"From this bridge I send you a sigh — not of sorrow, like those exhaled by the prisoners who crossed it to hear their death sentence, but of admiration caused by the view of this city."
Philatelic Description:
This exceptional postcard, mailed from Venice in December 1902, features a finely colored lithograph of the _Ponte dei Sospiri_ and was sent to the small locality of _Navam del Río Negro_, Uruguay. The routing note _via Porongos_ refers to the old name of Trinidad, capital of the department of Flores — highlighting that the card traveled via Uruguay’s rural TRAVELLING POST OFFICE (TPO) system.
It bears a 10 centesimi King Umberto I stamp with Venezia postmark and a clear _Porongos_ CDS dated _23 DIC 02_.
A beautiful item showcasing INTERNATIONAL RURAL MAIL, RAILWAY TRANSPORT, and EARLY 20TH-CENTURY CULTURAL EXCHANGES, suitable for OPEN CLASS or POSTAL HISTORY collections centered on ITALY–URUGUAY CORRESPONDENCE.
