Unused No Gum This Red Austrian Poster Stamp Was Issued By The Piusverein, A Catholic Lay Association Named In Honor Of Pope Pius X And Dedicated To Promoting Christian Social Values, Loyalty To The Church, And Support For The Monarchy. The Central Imagery Combines Religious And Imperial Symbols: A Cross Surrounded By Rays Of Light, Two Scrolls Bearing Messages, And The Double-Headed Imperial Eagle Of Austria-Hungary Beneath A Banner That Reads “Für Kreuz Und Kaiseraar!” Meaning “For Cross And Emperor’s Honor!” Below, Another Banner Proclaims “Hoch Lebe Der Piusverein!” Or “Long Live The Piusverein!” The Oval Portrait At Left Shows Pope Pius X, While The Right Portrait Likely Depicts Saint Pius V, For Whom The Association Was Also Named.
