Vintage Circa 1935–1940 US Poster Stamp Inviting You To The Land Of Romance Clipper Arriving At San Francisco (Pan American Airways Clipper Flying Boat) Unused Hinge Mark 80% Original GumThe "Pan American Airways Clipper Flying Boat" refers to a fleet of flying boats, most notably the luxurious Boeing 314 Clipper and the earlier Martin M-130 China Clipper, which inaugurated transoceanic air travel and mail services in the 1930s and 1940s. These large, long-range aircraft were named "Clipper" after 19th-century sailing ships and were known for their opulence, offering amenities like dining rooms and sleeping berths. During World War II, they were also used by the military for transporting personnel and cargo. This Poster Stamp Promotes Early Transpacific Air Travel With A Striking Image Of A Pan American Airways Clipper Flying Boat In Mid-Flight, Captured Just Before Its Arrival In San Francisco. The Aircraft, Most Likely A Boeing 314 Or Sikorsky S-42, Symbolizes The Luxury And Adventure Of Clipper Service During The Golden Age Of Aviation In The 1930s. The Central Sepia-Toned Aerial Photograph Is Surrounded By An Elegant Decorative Border Featuring Stylized Laurel Motifs, Reinforcing The Idea Of Prestige And Romance Associated With Air Travel. The Caption Emphasizes The Allure Of Exotic Destinations With The Phrase “Inviting You To The Land Of Romance,” Making This A Classic Example Of Early Airline Promotional Ephemera. Visible Text (Rewritten In Sentence Form): Inviting You To The Land Of Romance Clipper Arriving At San Francisco.
