MISSING: 6c Transport; (Scott #C25), tied by Enhaut PA (DPO 1832-1957) Mar 19 1945 postmark to cover, addr Lt Walter A Miller, 452 Bomb Group, 730 Bomber Squadron, APO 559, etc, the 452 Bomb Group was assigned to bomb German targets beginning in 1944 and also supported D-Day, their base was in Norfolk England, Miller was Radio Operator and co-pilot of his B-17, they crashed March 19 1945 near Zwickau, listed as MIA, which was soon changed to killed in action, the sender of the cover was related to Miller (sister?), the cover was mailed in the small town of Enhaut (not far from Harrisburg) and went by air to England, at the Base the ultramarine "MISSING" handstamp was applied, a J. A. Forrest signed off as the information being correct, on April 15 the cover was backstamped APO 598 (unlisted), usual pointing finger markings and return info applied, the sender annotated the cover upon receipt and wrote This letter came back to me July 12 1945, she also circled the word MISSING and noted March 19th 1945, some staining but really very trifling considering the amazing and poignant artifact, Fine-VF.

You are not reading this wrong. WALTER A. MILLER was KILLED THE SAME DAY this letter WAS SENT. A startling piece of postal history.
