Original German local emergency issue “Kleingeldersatzmarke” (miniature Notgeld) from the town of Reichensachsen (Hessen), dating to the early Weimar inflation era, c.1918–1921. This small stamp-sized paper token represents 5 Mark, printed in blue ink with intricate ornamental detail. The design features a medieval knight with sword and shield, along with “Reichensachsen Gemeinde” (Municipality of Reichensachsen). These “stamp-money” pieces were part of local substitute currency printed in sheets and used for minor daily transactions when coins were scarce during and after WWI. Many were later redeemed and destroyed, making surviving examples uncommon—especially as singles.
