Postmark: Connersville, Indiana – July 14, 1944 – 8:30 PM Stamp: 3¢ purple 50th Anniversary of Motion Pictures commemorative (Scott #926, issued 1944), depicting an audience watching a film. Cachet: Bold blue cartoon illustration showing caricatures of Axis leaders: Mussolini (already dead with “X” eyes), Emperor Hirohito, and Adolf Hitler. They are being skewered together on a giant pitchfork, symbolizing Allied defeat of the Axis powers. Marked RPS at bottom right, identifying the cachet maker. Addressee: Wm. Temple, 5136 Ingersoll Ave., Des Moines 12, Iowa Theme: WWII propaganda cover celebrating Allied progress in the war by depicting the downfall of Axis leaders in a satirical and triumphant manner.
