Postmark: Amsterdam, New York (date unclear). Stamps: 1¢ Statue of Liberty, green, “For Defense” (Scott #899, 1940). 2¢ Harding Memorial issue, brown (Scott #610, 1923). Cachet: Bold illustrated design in bright colors. A menacing buzzard with a swastika armband sits on a branch, blood dripping from its claws and beak. Slogan at top: “THE BUZZARD WAITS FOR WASTE.” Caption below: “He hovers over your machine—every broken tool—every piece of scrap is food for his gluttonous carnage!” Addressed To: Mr. Fred Cochran, Detroit, Michigan.Theme: Anti-waste / war production morale propaganda.
