Postmark: Fort McClellan, Alabama – September 2, 1945, the day of Japan’s formal surrender. Includes an additional “Received” marking for HQ, 4th Regiment, I.R.T.C. (Infantry Replacement Training Center), Ft. McClellan, Ala., making this an official military-related piece.Stamp: 3¢ “Iwo Jima” commemorative (Scott #929), issued July 11, 1945, depicting the famous flag-raising on Mount Suribachi.Cachet (200-Bay, signed M.F.N.): Patriotic imagery with the caption: “The Rising Sun Has Set.” Banner “Victory V-J Day” draped across a globe. A classical figure of Victory/Liberty holding a shield stands atop a defeated octopus (representing Japan’s wartime aggression). A dove of peace with olive branch flies above, symbolizing the dawn of peace. Theme: Marks Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day), the official end of World War II.
